Yes, i have to admit… i am proud of our operating system.

Yesterday i was reading of ext4’s wondefull capabilities and caught by curiosity i decided to try a fresh install to begin a test. Thinkin’ on how to test it without as usual destroyn’ my laptop installation, i thought i should have tried something more interesting than simply upgrading my current kernel: with the glittering eyes i choosed jaunty jackalope alpha5 (choosen wisely).

What i needed was even a partition to install Jaunty, so i’ve choosen an external usb drive. My laptop can boot from USB HDD so i selected it as my fist boot-device, then rebooted the laptop ad started a normal installation on the external disk (/dev/sdb). I’ve choosed this device even for grub (hd1) and everything went well:  at the first reboot jaunty was up&running.

All this things make me think about how far “Gnu-linux OS” (beg your pardon fos this all-inclusive appellative) has arrived. Compared to the setups from 2001-2002 we are not scared by having fully working dual monitors, external usb HDD, wireless and bluetooth. Seems strange but in 2000 having a working flash seems a dream, and office interoperation with the rest of the world an utopia.

Ten years ago i was starting this travel with slackware, then i found debian and then ubuntu. I am still learning a lot and i never ever got tired o felt a sort of “rest” in the community.

Today i am happy, tomorrow exited.
